  • Virtualitics has received IL5 and IL6 authority to operate for its AI-native readiness platform
  • The IL6 approval allows the AI platform to support classified work on Secret networks
  • Virtualitics CISO Kyle Tobener said few commercial AI software-as-a-service providers have reached IL6

Artificial intelligence software firm Virtualitics said Wednesday it has secured Impact Level 5 and Impact Level 6 authority to operate, or ATO, covering its AI-native readiness platform.

IL5 authorization clears Department of War users to apply the company’s tools to controlled unclassified information, or CUI, as well as unclassified national security system workloads. IL6 allows for the tools’ use with classified information and secret-level network workloads.

What Is the Virtualitics Readiness Platform?

The Virtualitics AI Platform is the software on which Virtualitics builds its readiness applications for defense, government and critical infrastructure customers. The platform works to ingest and preprocess data, train models and run analytics, combining data from separate systems for use in readiness decisions. It hosts the company’s Integrated Readiness Optimization applications, which address asset maintenance, supply chain management, personnel preparedness and other areas, and can be deployed across multiple networks and cloud environments.

What Did Virtualitics Executives Say About the Authorizations?

Kyle Tobener, Virtualitics chief information security officer, said few commercial AI software-as-a-service providers have reached IL6 because of the technical and operational demands involved.

“Achieving that standard positions Virtualitics to deliver trusted AI at scale across some of the Department of War’s most complex and consequential readiness missions,” Tobener added.

Chief Engineer Justin Gantenberg said the approvals move explainable AI nearer to decision-makers while upholding the safeguards classified missions require.

“It enables leaders to securely combine mission data and advanced AI so trusted insights reach decision-makers faster,” Gantenberg noted.

How Has Virtualitics Expanded Its Defense AI Work?

The authorizations follow a May agreement with OpenAI to integrate the AI developer’s frontier models into Virtualitics Iris, an agentic readiness platform launched in August 2025. Public sector Chief Technology Officer Chris Brown has urged defense organizations to adopt a data-on-demand model that keeps information in authoritative systems.

In November 2025, the Marine Corps’ 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing awarded Virtualitics a contract to deploy its Integrated Readiness Optimization platform for the MV-22 Osprey fleet. Chief Revenue Officer Rob Bocek has said AI-driven predictive analytics can help the department anticipate equipment failures.
