Alaska Native corporation Chenega has promoted Anna Cometa, an attorney with more than 10 years of courtroom experience in the state, to deputy general counsel, the company said in a LinkedIn post Saturday.

What Are Cometa’s Responsibilities as Deputy General Counsel?

In her new position, Cometa will advise company leaders on litigation, employment and compliance issues, federal contracting, internal investigations, risk management and corporate governance. She joined Chenega in 2025 as corporate counsel.

Siena Caruso, senior vice president and general counsel at Chenega, credited Cometa’s teamwork, sound judgment and skill in handling intricate legal and regulatory matters in support of company goals.

“Her promotion reflects the significant contributions she has made to the company, and the confidence leadership places in her expertise,” Caruso added.

Who Is Anna Cometa?

Before Chenega, Cometa spent over a decade as an Alaska trial lawyer, litigating civil and criminal cases. Her private practice included commercial litigation at the Anchorage office of Holmes, Weddle & Barcott. She also worked in the civil and criminal divisions of the Alaska Attorney General’s Office.

In addition, she presided as a magistrate judge and special master in Palmer, Alaska, hearing probate, family law, protective order, civil and criminal cases. Chenega said her time on the bench sharpened her perspective on resolving disputes, reaching decisions and applying the law in practice.

Outside the company, Cometa holds an appointment to the Alaska Violent Crimes Compensation Board and sits on the Alaska Bar Association’s Fee Arbitration Committee. She earned her law degree from Suffolk University Law School.

What Are Some of the Recent Developments at Chenega?

In contracting, subsidiary Chenega Naswik International secured an $8.5 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers security contract in April and a $6.4 million FBI Academy security award in May. In March, the unit received a $78.6 million Department of Homeland Security task order to guard IRS facilities.

That same month, Chenega Security California Corp. won a $22 million Department of Energy contract for protective force services at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
