- The Air Force awarded Boeing a $200 million contract for aerospace vehicle technology research and development
- Work on the contract is expected to be performed through May 2037
- Earlier this year, Boeing received a contract for additional Block II Chinook helicopters and contract modifications for work on the E-7 aircraft
Boeing has won a $200 million contract from the U.S. Air Force for research and development work.
What Does the Air Force Contract Cover?
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract calls for the development, integration and transition of new aerospace vehicle technologies, the Department of War said Friday.
The requirement was acquired competitively, with 11 offers received. Work will be carried out in Saint Louis, Missouri, unless otherwise indicated, with an expected completion date of May 28, 2037.
The Air Force Research Laboratory is the contracting activity.
What Other Aviation-Related Work Has Boeing Done for the Military?
The latest award continues Boeing’s work with the U.S. military on aerial technology. In April, the company completed a test flight of an MQ-25A Stingray unmanned aircraft in collaboration with the U.S. Navy. The test flight lasted two hours during which the Stingray showed that it could taxi, take off, fly, land and respond to commands autonomously.
The test moves the unmanned aircraft closer to aircraft carrier operations.
Also in April, Boeing received a $324 million contract from the U.S. Army for six CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters. That award brought the number of CH-47F Block IIs on contract to 24. The first equipped unit is expected to be fielded by the Army no later than mid-calendar year 2028.
Meanwhile, in March, Boeing received two contract modifications for work supporting the E-7A program. One modification involves a $2.33 billion option tied to the E-7A Rapid Prototype Airborne Mission Segment contract. The modification brought the contract’s cumulative value to roughly $4.91 billion. The other modification, worth $99.3 million, covers work related to the E-7A Diminishing Manufacturing Sources Multi-Role Electronically Scanned Array radar.
