IBM said Wednesday that it has secured Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, approval for 11 artificial intelligence and automation offerings. The FedRAMP authorization was made possible by a collaboration between IBM and Amazon Web Services, whose AWS GovCloud (U.S.) service hosts the IBM capabilities.

The Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Digital Transformation Summit, set for April 22, will convene federal and industry leaders to examine how agencies are modernizing legacy systems and adopting emerging technologies. Discussions will focus on advancements in AI, cybersecurity, enterprise IT and user experience, as well as strategies to strengthen collaboration and accelerate mission delivery. Register now.

“Obtaining authorization for these 11 software solutions within a single year constitutes a four-fold increase in IBM’s FedRAMP portfolio,” said Vanessa Hunt, general manager for IBM’s U.S. federal market technology business.

Which IBM Offerings Received FedRAMP Authorization?

Among the IBM AI offerings that received FedRAMP authorization are watsonx.ai, which works to enable users to build and deploy AI applications across hybrid cloud environments by providing tools and access to foundation models like IBM Granite; watsonx.governance, which works to help agencies scale responsible AI and manage risk associated with the technology; and watsonx Orchestrate, which works to automate and orchestrate workflows with the help of AI assistants and agents.

On the part of automation, the newly-FedRAMP-authorized IBM offerings include Verify, which handles identity and access management; Instana, which handles application observability and monitoring; and the Maximo Application Suite, which handles asset lifecycle management.

How Does This Fit Into IBM’s Broader Federal AI Strategy?

The authorization builds on IBM’s wider push to enable secure, AI-ready environments across government.

Earlier this year, the company introduced software designed to help agencies establish sovereign environments for AI-ready workloads, allowing them to retain control over data, operations and system configurations while meeting regulatory requirements. In 2025, it established a partnership with Groq to accelerate the deployment of agentic AI capabilities.

IBM has also expanded its AI footprint in defense and national security. The company previously launched an AI model developed with Janes to support intelligence analysis and mission planning.
