Advanced Technology International has named veteran technology executive Steven Walker to its board of directors, effective Oct. 20. A two-time Wash100 Award winner, Walker previously served as vice president and chief technology officer at Lockheed Martin, overseeing its technology strategy and global R&D investments, as well as corporate and international laboratories, ATI said Wednesday.

Walker also had a stint of over 30 years in government service, with more than seven years spent in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, holding its director’s position immediately before he joined Lockheed, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In addition, he held the role of U.S. Air Force deputy assistant secretary for science, technology and engineering for more than two years. His prior experience also includes work as special assistant to the director at the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and as program manager at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Besides ATI, Walker also currently serves as a board director of SRI International and Applied Research Associates.
Walker earned a doctorate and a bachelor’s degree in science and aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering degree from the University of Dayton. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
“Adding such an esteemed and well-respected leader from both industry and government to our team will be a difference-maker for ATI,” Chris Van Metre, ATI board chairman.
“We are living in a time of unprecedented technological change and whomever understands and harnesses that change faster, wins,” Walker said. “I’m excited to join ATI’s board because they have a collaboration model, and more importantly, a proven track record of accelerating technology development for a diverse set of U.S. government customers.”
