ICEYE US has won a position on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space-Based Environmental Monitoring, or SBEM, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to supply synthetic aperture radar imagery supporting environmental monitoring and weather forecasting.

As federal agencies expand their use of commercial satellite data and other emerging technologies, representatives from NOAA, GSA, the Department of Energy and other federal civilian agencies will join industry leaders at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 FedCiv Summit on Oct. 29. The event will feature a panel on observability as the foundation for federal shared services, along with discussions on IT modernization, artificial intelligence, interoperability and trusted information sharing. In a statement published Tuesday, ICEYE US CEO Ann Stevens said the award reflects NOAA’s recognition of commercial SAR’s value during environmental emergencies and creates a long-term pathway to build on that experience.

What Will ICEYE US Provide NOAA Under the Active Sensors Category?
Under the contract’s Active Sensors category, ICEYE US will give NOAA access to commercial SAR imagery covering land, coastal and ocean conditions. The company’s radar satellites capture imagery through cloud cover and darkness, supporting flood monitoring, sea ice tracking, marine surveillance, disaster response and resource mapping — providing NOAA another way to observe conditions during hurricanes, floods and other events when poor visibility limits optical satellites.
ICEYE US said its position within the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation supports more frequent revisits of a given location and imagery delivery within hours rather than days, helping fill observation gaps left by optical satellites during storms or overnight events.
NOAA recently selected ICEYE US and 13 other companies to supply commercial satellite data under the SBEM IDIQ contract, which aims to enhance weather and space weather forecasting capabilities. In April, the agency sought offers for the SBEM domain under the ProTech 2.0 program, an $8 billion vehicle established in 2021 that supports procurement across NOAA’s weather, ocean, fisheries and satellite services.
What Is ICEYE US?
ICEYE US is a Southern California-based remote sensing company that designs, builds and operates radar imaging satellites, delivering real-time monitoring data to U.S. government, allied and commercial customers. The company supports missions spanning national security, disaster response and infrastructure monitoring.
The NOAA award adds to the company’s growing list of federal contracts. In August, the National Reconnaissance Office selected ICEYE US, along with Capella Space and Umbra Lab, for its Radar Commercial Augmentation program, following a multiyear evaluation of five commercial SAR providers conducted under NRO’s Commercial Radar Capabilities effort. That selection built on an earlier May award, when NRO added ICEYE US to a Strategic Commercial Enhancements commercial solutions opening for radio frequency capabilities, alongside EarthDaily and Pixxel, to expand the agency’s multi-phenomenology data portfolio. NASA also expanded its work with ICEYE US in June, naming the company one of 14 awardees added under the second on-ramp of its Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition contract, which supplements NASA’s Earth-observing satellites with additional commercial imagery.
