As CGI Federal adds AI and automation capabilities to its financial management software, federal civilian agencies continue to look for ways to modernize core operations. Karim Fadel, a vice president at CGI Federal, will join government and industry leaders at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 FedCiv Summit on Oct. 29 for a panel discussion on the future of the federal workforce. The CGI-backed event will also cover AI, the General Services Administration’s OneGov strategy, federal shared services, AI-driven IT modernization and more. Save your seat now to hear from the officials and executives shaping federal civilian technology.

The company said Tuesday Momentum 8.4 is open to all federal agencies.

What Updates Does Momentum 8.4 Include?

The update focuses on data access, fund management, compliance and daily financial workflows. Key additions include:

  • An AI-backed analytics agent that helps users query and interpret agency data.
  • Tools for managing unliquidated obligation and commitment balances to help agencies use idle funds.
  • Automated recommendations for credit card reconciliation.
  • GO.gov integration for processing travel authorizations, vouchers and advances. CGI Federal said Momentum 8.4 is the first core financial system on the Department of the Treasury’s Financial Management Quality Service Management Office, or FM QSMO, Marketplace to offer this capability.
  • Payment justification features and a connection to the Internal Revenue Service’s Information Returns Intake System.
  • Six task-based workspaces for functions such as budget execution, intragovernmental transactions, ordering and travel management, each with guided processes and data insights.

Kerry Canfield, vice president at CGI Federal, said agencies are working to modernize core operations as requirements shift and pressure to improve efficiency grows.

“Momentum 8.4 expands automation and compliance capabilities while introducing user-centric enhancements designed to reduce operational complexity across federal supporting functions,” Canfield said.

What Is Momentum Enterprise Suite?

Momentum Enterprise Suite is a budget, financial and acquisition management software platform developed for federal agencies. According to CGI Federal, it was the first core financial management solution to receive FM QSMO approval.

The suite applies agentic AI, intelligent automation and exception-based processing to help agencies improve efficiency and keep up with changing federal priorities. CGI Federal describes Momentum as its flagship financial management offering.

How Does the Latest Momentum Release Build on CGI Federal’s Other Work?

Momentum 8.4 arrives after several CGI Federal contracts tied to the platform. In August, the company secured a $251 million General Services Administration contract to continue supporting the agency’s financial systems environment under a Momentum-as-a-Service model.

Earlier in the year, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded CGI Federal a $64 million contract to modernize its Compass financial management platform using AI and Momentum. The Department of Veterans Affairs issued the company a $26.9 million delivery order to support iFAMS, which is built on CGI’s Momentum Enterprise Suite.

On the AI front, CGI and Amazon Web Services signed a strategic collaboration agreement in April to advance trusted AI and secure cloud adoption in the public sector. CGI Federal then launched an AI-powered offering to modernize legacy IT systems in June and introduced an AI Agent Catalog with AWS in September.
