VA is pursuing an enterprisewide AI strategy to improve healthcare delivery for veterans. The Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Healthcare Summit on Dec. 3 will bring together leaders from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Defense Health Agency, the Veterans Health Administration and other agencies to discuss AI governance, fraud mitigation, access to care and more. Nava said Monday the subcontract falls under Tribility’s potential two-year, $2.9 million contract with VA.

How Will Nava Support VA Through the Subcontract?

Under the award, Nava will work with Tribility to assist the Veterans Health Administration and the National Artificial Intelligence Institute, or NAII, in implementing VA’s AI strategy.

Nava will help the two organizations identify and manage AI-related risks and develop guidance for AI governance. The company will also support the evaluation of AI concepts through pilot projects to determine their readiness for adoption.

The contract awarded to Tribility will run through Sept. 29, 2027, with performance potentially extending to Sept. 29, 2028, according to USAspending.gov. VA has obligated $1.4 million under the order to date.

Jodi Leo, chief delivery officer at Nava, said the award expands the company’s work with the department.

“We’re proud to grow our partnership with VA, building on the trust we’ve established over the years to take on new work that directly benefits Veterans,” Leo said. “As our footprint with VA grows, so does our opportunity to make lasting improvements across the Veteran experience.”

What Is Nava?

Nava is a public benefit corporation that works to improve how government services function for the people who rely on them.

The company has worked with VA since its founding years, starting with a technology effort that helped department staff process appeals decisions faster. Its subsequent VA work includes redesigning va.gov, applying AI-based claims classification to speed up disability benefits for veterans and supporting VA’s Secure, Performant, Reliable, and User-Centered Experiences program.

How Does the Subcontract Build on Nava’s Federal Health Work?

The VA subcontract follows Aquia Nava II’s three-year, $2.6 million contract from NAII. Under that award, the joint venture between Aquia and Nava helps NAII identify AI use cases, develop AI-powered tools and run pilot programs to enhance the veteran healthcare system.

At the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Nava is working with prime contractor Corbalt to support the agency’s Medicare Payment System Modernization program. The company recently helped CMS launch the Technical Consolidation of the Electronic Data Interchange, or TCEDI, which replaces seven contractor-run systems with a single application for routing Medicare claims to the agency.

Nava is developing a new grants management system for the Department of Health and Human Services to replace GrantSolutions.gov, which supports over 1,500 federal grant programs. The company expanded its benefits delivery capabilities by acquiring Beam, a cloud-based platform government agencies use to administer safety net, emergency aid and cash assistance programs.
