Mattermost has launched a free, self-hosted tier for its collaboration platform designed to help defense, government and critical infrastructure organizations maintain full control of their data in an era of increasing artificial intelligence-driven security threats.

The company said Thursday Mattermost Entry provides secure, sovereign collaboration capabilities for teams operating in air-gapped environments, replacing Mattermost’s previous basic messaging-only free edition.

“Most of the time, SaaS products and third-party apps are fine—they are the global norm,” said Mattermost CEO Ian Tien. “But for sensitive info like IP or national security secrets that adversaries covet, you need real-time chat, project management, or sovereign AI agents to guarantee no data leaves your perimeter. These high-rigor ops demand a mix of global and sovereign platforms, and Mattermost leads in unlocking sovereign AI collaboration with full data and operational control. Sovereign AI loses its value if third-party tools risk data leakage during team interactions.”

What Are the Key Capabilities of Mattermost Entry?

Mattermost Entry is a self-hosted suite of collaboration tools, including cross-platform messaging, project management, workflow automation, audio and screen sharing and AI agents.

The offering provides users with access to the capabilities of Mattermost’s intelligent mission environment, which offers a unified platform for secure, AI-powered collaboration and automation to support mission-critical operations.

According to the company, Entry is designed to support DevSecOps, cyber defense and mission operations with single sign-on, audit logging, attribute-based access and other advanced controls to protect operations from extractions and breaches.

The tier supports rapid deployment on cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, through a single virtual machine or an orchestrated Kubernetes deployment. The company said it plans to deploy Mattermost Entry on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud in the future.
