A new Albuquerque, N.M.-based defense company founded by former Raytheon employees has begun to design and produce technology platforms for counter-drone operations and satellite communications, Albuquerque Business First reported Friday. Established in June 2018, Raven Defense occupies a 5K-square-foot office in New Mexico and plans to lease more space as the company works on radio frequency-based platforms and builds up its hiring pipeline through the University of New Mexico's workforce training program and COSMIAC research center.

Boeing handed over two KC-46A Pegasus tanker planes to the U.S. Air Force during a ceremony held Thursday at the company’s Everett, Wash.-based assembly facility, GeekWire reported Thursday. Leanne Caret, president and CEO of Boeing’s defense, space and security business, made a surprise announcement Thursday before employees and service personnel that the company would deliver not just one, but two KC-46As to the military branch.

Chris Pogue, president of government division at Maxar Technologies’ MDA business, told MilsatMagazine in an interview that he oversees the operations and growth of defense, enterprise geospatial platforms, Earth observation systems and space robotics business lines as head of MDA Government. Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch of Inmarsat Government has said government leaders and the satellite communications industry must continue to work together to facilitate the integration of commercial innovation into a unified satcom architecture. Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president for government strategy and policy at Inmarsat Government, wrote in a MilsatMagazine article how the U.S. Air Force’s Analysis of Alternatives effort highlights the urgency for a strong industry-government partnership to “ensure available solutions are fully considered as part of any recapitalization process.”

Dan Tucker, a vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, told Meritalk in an interview published Tuesday that federal agencies need to assess their data architecture and future requirements for data scalability and extensibility when moving workloads to the cloud. “You almost need the data strategy at the application and portfolio level before you can lay out your cloud strategy,” Tucker said.
