SES Space & Defense will provide commercial satellite communications services to the U.S. Army under a five-year, $89.6 million sustainment tactical network, or STN, contract. David Broadbent, company president and CEO, noted in the Monday announcement of the contract that the COMSATCOM provides “a decisive information advantage” to the Army.
“This award is a significant milestone for SES Space & Defense and reconfirms our commitment to delivering interoperable and secure satellite services to the U.S. Army – as a leading satellite services integrator for the DOD and provider of the previous STN iteration known as Wideband Enterprise Satellite Systems COMSATCOM Network,” said the company chief.
Contract Service Coverage
Under the contract, the company will deliver its commercial Ku-band geostationary satellite service to the Army’s long-haul network transport and base-support communications for Combat Service Support, DOD programs and U.S. government agencies. The U.S. Space Force’s Commercial Satellite Communications Office will support the service delivery that will utilize commercial teleport and equipment, including terrestrial-based network links, in the COMSATCOM connections.
