General Dynamics Mission Systems, or GDMS, has been awarded a potential $740.4 million hybrid contract by the U.S. Navy to support fiscal 2026-2027 Strategic Weapon System, or SWS, fire control subsystem efforts for U.S. and allied ballistic missile submarine fleets.

What Are the SWS FCS Contract Details?

The Department of War said Friday the Pittsfield, Massachusetts-headquartered company received a $255.1 million contract that includes options worth an additional $485.3 million, raising the potential total value to $740.4 million if all options are exercised. The effort will be carried out primarily in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with additional work performed in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Florida, Washington, Georgia and the U.K. The contract is scheduled for completion by June 1, 2033.

What Does the Contract Cover?

The cost-plus-incentive-fee, cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-only contract provides development, production, modernization, installation, sustainment, repair, training and technical engineering services for the SWS fire control subsystem. The work applies to Navy ballistic missile and guided missile submarines, as well as U.K. ballistic missile submarines under a foreign military sales arrangement.

How Is the Contract Funded & Awarded?

Funds from multiple Navy appropriations across fiscal years 2022 through 2026 are being obligated at the time of award. The contract, managed by the Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C., was awarded as a sole-source acquisition.

GDMS’s Previous SWS-related Navy Awards

GDMS has previously secured multiple Navy contracts supporting the SWS, including a potential $335 million, three-year effort awarded in January 2024 and a six-year $273 million contract modification issued in July 2022 to provide support for the fire control system.
