General Dynamics Mission Systems has secured a U.S. Navy contract valued about $18.2 million for the development, maintenance and supply of common weapon launchers, or CWL, and multi-tube weapon simulators, or MTWS.
CWL & MTWS Contract Details
Work will be carried out in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island with an expected completion date of August 2026, the Department of Defense said Thursday. The contract provides options that, if exercised, extend work to August 2030 and raise the total value to almost $230 million.
The cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price contract also covers foreign military sales to the AUKUS partnership of Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The contracting activity is the Naval Sea Systems Command. The contract was not competitively procured.
CWL & MTWS Functionality
The CWL serves as the weapons launch system on submarines in service in the U.S. and Australian navies. In particular, it is used aboard U.S. Navy Virginia and Columbia-class submarines and Royal Australian Navy Collins-class submarines.
The MTWS works to emulate the behavior of torpedo tube launched weapons used by the U.S. and its allies.
