The Department of State has approved the foreign military sale of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, or JLTVS, to Canada, with AM General as the principal contractor. The FMS, worth an estimated $160 million, involves up to 60 JLTVs and nine JLTV cargo trailers, plus related equipment and logistics and program support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

The proposed sale’s implementation will require sending to Canada up to 15 U.S. government and 20 AM General representatives to support the JLTV program fielding, training and logistics for up to six years.
The FMS will serve to advance Canada’s defense capabilities against current and future threats, contributing to improved allied peacekeeping operations worldwide. The JLTV sale will not affect the North American region’s basic military balance, DSCA noted.
