- Stack and Song officially join Evercore after external news reports broke the news in August
- The duo have several decades of combined banking experience in GovCon M&A
- This marks the second time the Wash100 Award-winning pair have moved companies together
Longtime GovCon bankers Jean Stack and John Song have been appointed senior managing directors in the aerospace and defense practice at Evercore. GovCon Wire reported the news in August, drawing from reporting by Bloomberg as well as independent verification, but Evercore officially announced the hires on Monday.
Stack and Song hail from Baird, where they spent nearly nine years advising, influencing and closing deals for large organizations and up-and-coming firms alike in markets like defense technology and electronics and space. Both leaders are multiple-time winners of the prestigious Wash100 Award, Executive Mosaic’s annual honor conferred to top achievers in the government services industry.
What Did Stack and Song Say About the New Roles?
“We are thrilled to be joining Evercore and look forward to continuing to serve clients
supporting the national security mission for the U.S. and our allies,” Stack said.
Song offered some rationale for the move.
“Evercore is a world-class advisory platform with a broad range of capabilities that
we can now leverage to better serve our clients,” he explained, adding, “Evercore’s distinguished reputation for execution excellence is something we deeply admire, and we are excited to be joining the team.”
Where Have Stack and Song Worked Previously?
As managing directors in charge of the government and defense segment at Baird, Stack and Song spearheaded deals for the likes of CACI, Lockheed Martin, Accenture, Boeing and Leidos. In the last five years alone, they’ve successfully completed 100 transactions at an estimated total price tag of almost $50 billion.
Prior to Baird, the duo collaborated together as senior bankers at Houlihan Lokey, where Stack helped found the aerospace, defense and government services group. Song also worked for a stint at Booz Allen Hamilton.
Evercore Co-Head of U.S. Investment Banking Jason Sobol credited Stack and Song’s “extensive relationships and experience” as being a differentiating asset.
The long-running Baird Government and Defense Conference, which was their brainchild, was a central meeting place for the industry. Its future after their departure remains unclear, though this year’s edition, which has been retitled as the 2026 National Security Conference, is set for Nov. 17.
