The Department of War said Tuesday the company will perform service life modifications on up to 60 F/A-18 E/F planes to extend the service life of Block II Super Hornet aircraft from 6,000 flight hours to 10,000 flight hours.
Boeing will also integrate Block III avionics capabilities into the aircraft under the cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
Work on the contract will occur in San Diego, California; San Antonio, Texas; and St. Louis, Missouri through November 2028.
Naval Air Systems Command will not obligate funds at the time of award and will provide funding upon issuance of individual delivery orders.
What Is the F/A-18 Super Hornet?
The F/A-18 Super Hornet is a multirole strike fighter aircraft designed to support air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. It features advanced avionics, an active electronically scanned array radar and infrared search and track capabilities.
Block II and Block III upgrades seek to provide modern mission systems, open architecture and improved situational awareness to support combined operations and facilitate the rapid integration of new capabilities across partner fleets.
What Are Boeing’s Previous Navy Super Hornet Contracts?
The award marks Boeing’s latest Super Hornet contract with the Navy.
In September 2024, the company received a $319 million contract to provide automated maintenance environment system sustainment support for the service’s F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft.
In March 2024, Boeing secured a $1.3 billion contract to build and deliver 17 F/A-18 fighter jets and a technical data package for fleet sustainment.
