Axonius and Elastic have unveiled a native integration designed to help federal agencies meet the asset visibility and logging requirements outlined in an Office of Management and Budget memorandum.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Frederico Hakamine, technical evangelist director at Axonius, wrote that the integration, now available in the Elastic integrations marketplace, connects Axonius’ asset inventory directly to Elastic Security’s event and detection environment.
How Does the Integration Support OMB Memorandum M-26-14 Compliance?
OMB memorandum M-26-14, titled “Ensuring Effective and Efficient Agency Logging and Network Visibility,” replaces the tiered, log-everything approach set under M-21-31 with a risk-based standard that requires agencies to identify which assets should be generating logs in the first place.
Security information and event management, or SIEM, platforms can only alert on data they receive, so any asset that is not logging remains invisible to a security operations center regardless of detection capability. According to Hakamine, the integration is intended to close this gap by pairing two sources of information:
- Elastic identifies which devices and systems are actively sending logs
- Axonius cross-references that data against its own asset inventory, drawn from its Cyber Assets and Cyber-Physical Assets, or CPA, products — Cyber Assets aggregates inventory data across more than 1,400 sources and 40 asset types, while CPA adds network-based discovery of devices that agents, scanners and configuration management databases may not otherwise capture
According to Hakamine, the resulting comparison is meant to generate a prioritized list of assets that should be logging but are not, giving agencies a basis to demonstrate coverage under the mandate.
How Does Axonius Asset Intelligence Work Inside Elastic Security?
The integration operates without additional agents or network taps. Axonius asset data is indexed into Elastic on a periodic basis and made accessible as a lookup layer for Elasticsearch Query Language queries and Elastic Workflows. According to Hakamine, the integration supports security teams in several ways:
- During an investigation: Analysts can view asset context, including compute, network, identity, application and exposure data, alongside the event they are reviewing, rather than retrieving that information separately.
- Assessing relationships and blast radius: The integration correlates relationships across assets, which can help security teams assess how a compromised device or account connects to other systems and where compensating controls may be missing.
- Surfacing silent risks: Axonius surfaces risks that do not generate security events on their own, such as shadow IT and misconfigured assets, presenting them within Elastic as exposures and security findings.
What Recent Growth Has Shaped Axonius’ Federal Push?
Axonius has built momentum in the federal cybersecurity space over the past year. The company surpassed $200 million in annual recurring revenue in May, a milestone that coincided with Joe Diamond’s elevation to chief executive officer as Axonius deploys its asset intelligence platform to meet demand for AI-enabled security operations. Axonius Federal Systems has also strengthened its go-to-market leadership, appointing Jared Vichengrad as senior vice president and general manager to drive the subsidiary’s strategy across the federal market.
Meanwhile, Brian “Stretch” Meyer, field chief technology officer at Axonius Federal, has continued to emphasize that complete IT asset visibility underpins effective zero trust and FITARA compliance efforts for government agencies.
