Virtualitics has appointed orthopedic surgeon Bert Mandelbaum as a scientific adviser to guide its artificial intelligence-driven medical readiness work for defense and government clients. The Pasadena, California-based mission AI company announced Mandelbaum’s appointment Wednesday.
What Role Will Mandelbaum Play at Virtualitics?
Mandelbaum will apply his background in musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation and return-to-performance programs to the company’s medical readiness strategy. CEO Michael Amori said the surgeon’s experience will bolster efforts to help organizations use AI to assess risks and “sustain warfighter physical readiness.” Mandelbaum said he plans to explore how AI can enable more proactive personnel health decisions.
Who Is Bert Mandelbaum?
Mandelbaum is vice chairman of orthopedic surgery at Cedars-Sinai medical center, where he co-directs the Regenerative Orthobiologic Center and leads the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence. He is U.S. Soccer’s chief medical officer and Major League Soccer’s associate chief medical officer. He has provided medical support at six Olympic Games and nine FIFA World Cups.
How Does Virtualitics Apply AI to Military Readiness?
Virtualitics said its readiness applications help leaders spot risks and constraints and set priorities across personnel, sustainment, materiel and operations before problems disrupt missions, with medical readiness emerging as a new use. This month, the platform behind those tools received Impact Level 5 and 6 authorizations for Department of War workloads, including Secret-level networks.
What Are the Other Recent Appointments at Virtualitics?
Mandelbaum’s appointment follows the company’s 2026 additions of retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Ed Barker as mission adviser and Salesforce’s Dave Rey to its board. Earlier this year, Virtualitics appointed Craig Rosen as chief financial officer and Kristy Friedrichs as chief operating officer.
