Amentum has opened its Global Nuclear headquarters in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and launched the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program. The company said Thursday the headquarters will centralize its international nuclear operations, while the scholars program will support curriculum development and scholarships to help prepare students for careers in the nuclear industry.

The opening ceremony was attended by Amentum CEO and 10-time Wash100 Award winner John Heller and Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tenn., along with local officials and school representatives.

What Will Amentum’s New Headquarters Do?

The new facility houses Amentum’s Nuclear Center of Excellence and employs more than 150 engineering, technology and advanced energy specialists. The new headquarters is intended to strengthen the company’s presence in East Tennessee.

Amentum is the lead partner in United Cleanup Oak Ridge, the Department of Energy’s prime environmental management contractor for the Oak Ridge Reservation. The partnership, which also includes Jacobs and Honeywell, began work under its current 10-year, $8.3 billion contract in May 2022.

Mark Whitney, president of the Amentum energy and environment business, said the new headquarters builds on the company’s existing operations and partnerships in the region and supports efforts to meet growing electricity demand.

“This facility empowers our team of experts to deliver next-generation nuclear innovation, and it builds directly upon the strong operational foundation we’ve established in the region through our Amentum-led UCOR partnership while contributing directly to regional economic growth,” Whitney said.

The opening follows Amentum’s fiscal third quarter, during which the company booked more than $400 million in awards for advanced nuclear technology work.

What Is the Amentum Nuclear Scholars Program?

Amentum’s Nuclear Scholars Program is a five-year, $500,000 initiative in partnership with Roane State Community College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. It will fund curriculum development and scholarships for students pursuing nuclear-related careers.

The first cohort is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with integration into Amentum’s international academic partnerships planned for fall 2027. The company said its other science, technology, engineering and mathematics sponsorships and donations in Oak Ridge bring its total student support for the two institutions to more than $1 million.
