- Saltenna demonstrated Plasmonix’s RF signal transmission capabilities
- The company received a new Department of War SBIR award notice
- The seventh patent covers more of Saltenna’s core surface wave technology
Saltenna tested its Plasmonix surface wave communications system during the third quarter, as the company reported a new Department of War Small Business Innovation Research award notice and progress on its seventh U.S. patent.
How Did Saltenna Test Its Surface Wave Technology?
The company said Thursday that it evaluated Plasmonix underground and in tropical terrain under several Department of War contracts. Saltenna has also added an in-house saltwater test tank that engineers can use to evaluate and adjust designs without having to conduct tests in open water.
During UComms ’26, held in Sestri Levante, Italy, Saltenna demonstrated how its Plasmonix system transmits radio frequency signals across water and ice surfaces and along submerged infrastructure. The conference was organized by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation.
Saltenna Chairman and CEO Dendy Young said the company converted its progress into contracts and revenue in the previous quarter before field-testing its system in environments where conventional radios lose connectivity this quarter.
Where Could Saltenna Apply Plasmonix?
Saltenna is working with two partners on technology integration. One effort involves incorporating Plasmonix into an autonomous underwater vehicle, while the other expands the company’s work with an established space infrastructure company.
What Contracts & Patents Has Saltenna Secured?
In the second quarter, Saltenna received a U.S. Army SBIR Phase I contract and a patent for an antenna that switches between transmission modes depending on its environment. It also obtained an Export Administration Regulations designation, which the company said is required to sell to the DOW, NATO and allied agencies.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s latest notice of allowance addresses other elements of the company’s core surface wave technology. The World Intellectual Property Organization also published Saltenna’s 11th WIPO publication.
