Hitachi Vantara has earned Common Criteria certification for its Virtual Storage Platform One Block, or VSP One Block, to help government agencies and organizations in regulated industries address security requirements and limit risk during compliance reviews.

As Hitachi Vantara obtains independent security validation for its VSP One Block storage platform, federal civilian agencies continue to evaluate the infrastructure protecting their most sensitive data. Government and industry leaders will gather at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 FedCiv Summit on Oct. 29 to discuss deploying AI across government, data and cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and workforce enablement. The company said Tuesday the certification applies to the VSP One B20 system.

What Does the Common Criteria Certification Cover?

The certification confirms that VSP One Block meets the requirements of the collaborative Protection Profile for Network Devices Version 3.0e, which addresses security auditing, identification and authentication, cryptographic support, security management, and trusted communications.

Common Criteria, also known as ISO/IEC 15408, is an international standard used to assess the security capabilities of IT products against a set of defined requirements.

ECSEC Laboratory carried out the evaluation, and the Japan IT Security Evaluation and Certification Scheme, or JISEC, issued the certification on June 19 under Common Criteria Version 3.1 Release 5. The Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan, administers JISEC, which serves as a certificate-authorizing scheme under the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement, allowing participating countries to mutually recognize certificates.

The certification remains in effect until June 19, 2031.

What Is VSP One Block?

VSP One Block is a block storage platform from Hitachi Vantara designed for mid-sized organizations. The platform supports workloads such as Microsoft SQL Server databases, virtualized environments, business applications and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

The system includes immutable data protection and ransomware detection based on CyberSense technology. Hitachi Vantara offers a data availability guarantee across the VSP One portfolio and a cyber resilience guarantee for qualifying VSP One Block systems, which covers the recovery of clean data following a cyberattack.

What Did Hitachi Vantara & Hitachi Federal Leaders Say About the Certification?

Octavian Tanase, chief product officer at Hitachi Vantara, said organizations face growing pressure to show that the technology handling their most sensitive data meets demanding security standards.

“Common Criteria provides independent validation of the critical security capabilities of VSP One Block, and it is another proof point in the broader data and cyber resilience solutions we have built across the VSP One portfolio, helping customers protect critical information, reduce risk and strengthen organizational resilience across operational, financial and governance priorities,” Tanase said.

Mark Serway, president and CEO of Hitachi Federal, said agencies want assurance that the systems underpinning their missions have been assessed against established security benchmarks.

“Independent certifications such as Common Criteria provide another important source of assurance during technology evaluation, while Hitachi Vantara’s broader cyber resilience capabilities help agencies protect access to critical data and maintain continuity when disruptions occur,” said Serway, a previous Wash100 awardee.

In April, Hitachi Vantara Federal rebranded as Hitachi Federal and adopted a new operating model to offer agencies access to Hitachi’s broader portfolio. At the time, Serway said the change allows the company to deliver Hitachi’s full range of capabilities to the federal market through a single partner, helping agencies reduce complexity and speed up innovation.
