Nava is teaming up with prime contractor Corbalt to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ operations and system reliability engineering, or OSRE, contract, as part of the agency’s Medicare Payment System Modernization, or MPSM, program.

As CMS continues modernizing the technology and infrastructure underpinning Medicare, federal health leaders are also navigating broader priorities around AI, data modernization, access to care and digital transformation. The Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 Healthcare Summit on Dec. 3 will bring together senior leaders from CMS, HHS, DHA and VHA to discuss these priorities and the contracting opportunities shaping the federal health landscape in FY27. What Will Nava Support Under the CMS Contract?

In this five-year effort, Nava said Tuesday it will help build and operate infrastructure supporting MPSM’s cloud-based services. The company will work to support the reliability and resilience of payment systems that process more than 1.1 billion claims annually and distribute more than $400 billion in payments for more than 60 million beneficiaries.

Rohan Bhobe, CEO and co-founder of Nava, characterized the work as a significant responsibility because of the volume of economic activity flowing through Medicare payment systems.

“This is important, large-scale work. Almost two percent of the U.S. GDP runs through these systems,” Bhobe said, adding, “We’re proud CMS trusts Nava to keep modernizing them.”

In 2022, the company said its OSRE team developed a system health status page that centralized and automated outage and incident alerts for CMS personnel and contractors responsible for processing claims. The effort was designed to improve visibility into system issues and reduce incident-resolution times. Nava also reported developing an application programming interface, or API, that moved millions of claims per day to CMS’ cloud platform.

How Does the Work Build on Nava’s CMS Modernization Efforts?

The new work expands a relationship between Nava and CMS that began in 2015.

The company’s previous CMS work includes efforts to move Medicare payment data from legacy mainframe environments into cloud infrastructure. Nava helped develop the Replicated Data Access API to make Medicare Part A and Part B claims data available through cloud infrastructure. The company said the API is intended to ingest and stream more than 20 million claim updates each day and has processed more than 1 billion claims.

Nava has also worked with CMS on Blue Button 2.0, a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources-enabled API that works to provide claims data for Medicare enrollees. The system aims to facilitate secure data access for Medicare beneficiaries, providers, researchers and third-party applications.

And just this September, Nava supported the launch of the Technical Consolidation of the Electronic Data Interchange, or TCEDI, consolidating seven contractor-run systems into a single system for routing Medicare claims to CMS. The application supports the agency’s handling of more than 1 billion Medicare claims annually and provides greater visibility into claims processing, remittance advice and eligibility inquiries.
