- The platform runs in a FedRAMP High environment
- Anthropic is rolling out Claude Code CLI and Claude for Microsoft 365
- GSA extended Anthropic’s $1 OneGov offer through Oct. 31
Anthropic has made Claude for Government generally available to federal and state agencies, moving the platform out of a public beta that began in July.
The company said Wednesday it will bill by usage rather than per-seat licensing, allowing agencies to draw down prepaid balances up to a fixed spending ceiling. Administrators can cap individual user tiers by dollar amount and by model, divide a department’s balance among component agencies, and track consumption as it accrues.

Anthropic stated it is open to contracting directly with agencies outside existing cloud provider agreements. Alternatively, agencies can procure access through the General Services Administration vehicle, which has an upcoming deadline.
Agency adoption of commercial AI platforms continues to hinge on authorization, data handling and spending controls. The Potomac Officers Club will host the 2026 FedCiv Summit on Oct. 29 at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia, bringing together agency and industry leaders to discuss AI adoption, cloud and data infrastructure, workforce strategies, and cross-agency initiatives. What Happens to the $1 GSA OneGov Price?
Anthropic’s OneGov agreement with GSA now expires Oct. 31, extended by a month in September, FedScoop reported. The $1-per-user price was set to lapse on Sept. 30.
GSA has been reworking its AI agreements. A renewed OneGov contract with OpenAI shifts from a $1 flat agency fee to consumption-based discounts through 2028, while Google’s extended Gemini agreement maintains agency access at $0.47 per year through Nov. 15, Nextgov/FCW reported.
What Capabilities Does Claude for Government Include?
Anthropic said its offering delivers coding and agentic capabilities through an environment that complies with “High” standards under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program. Agencies can deploy the application using standard mobile device management infrastructure.
Existing users can switch to the desktop application and transfer their conversation history via an in-app import feature. Designed to process locally stored files, the platform enables personnel to apply skills, plugins and projects to tasks such as memo creation, request for proposal reviews and casework. Development teams get Claude Code, the company’s coding tool, which Anthropic positions for building and modernizing the software systems behind public services.
Two additional products are rolling out in early access within the same environment and under the same governance framework: the Claude Code command-line interface and Claude for Microsoft 365. New capabilities will generally reach government users on the same release schedule as commercial ones.
Anthropic previously committed to giving government partners early access to test models and safeguards ahead of deployment, GovConWire reported in July.
How Does Anthropic Handle Agency Oversight Requirements?
Designed for routine agency auditing, Anthropic’s administrative architecture requires dual authorization for sensitive operations while maintaining detailed logs of all administrative events. To fulfill authority to operate and inspector general requests without exposing sensitive content, compliance exports provide usage-metering data while conversation histories remain exclusively on agency-controlled devices.
