AT&T Business has entered into a strategic agreement with Amazon Leo to integrate low Earth orbit satellite broadband services into its fiber and 5G network architecture for public sector and enterprise customers.

How Does the Agreement Expand Connectivity Options for Public Sector Customers?
The agreement builds on AT&T’s existing arrangements with Amazon Web Services and Amazon Leo, which are intended to support technology solutions for enterprise and government customers.
The expanded architecture is expected to deliver:
- Enhanced network resilience and redundancy across terrestrial and satellite systems
- Extended geographic reach to remote, rural and underserved areas through Amazon Leo
- Business-grade managed services backed by AWS and AT&T’s experience serving large-scale business and government customers

What Did AT&T & Amazon Officials Say About the Agreement?
Shawn Hakl, senior vice president and head of product at AT&T Business, said the market is not short on connectivity choices, but that enterprise and public sector customers are looking for a platform that offers stronger reliability.
“AT&T is uniquely positioned to provide that reliability by bringing together three critical network layers—fiber, 5G, and low Earth orbit satellite—into a single managed architecture,” Hakl said.

Wes Anderson, president of public sector at AT&T and a five-time Wash100 awardee, discussed the agreement in a LinkedIn post, saying the expanded architecture is meant to help organizations stay connected in remote locations and mission-critical situations.
“Reliable connectivity is foundational to mission success,” Anderson wrote in the post. “For public sector and enterprise customers, this means greater resilience, flexibility, and reach through a single trusted provider, helping organizations stay connected in remote locations, challenging environments, and mission-critical situations.”
How Is AT&T Expanding Its Connectivity Push?
The strategic agreement between AT&T Business and Amazon Leo comes after AT&T sealed a $2 billion FirstNet deal with the Commerce Department to expand 5G and public safety connectivity. Around the same time, Richard Durand, AT&T’s client executive vice president for national security, told ExecutiveBiz in a recent Executive Spotlight interview about the company’s direction on quantum, wireline, 5G and AI.
On the technology front, AT&T backed that up with the launch of its Quantum Resilient SD-WAN service powered by Cisco, built to protect networks against emerging quantum threats, while also teaming up with Ericsson to demonstrate drone detection over a live 5G network, a capability typically associated with future 6G systems.
AT&T Enterprise Services has since landed a $74 million Federal Aviation Administration task order to begin early planning work under the FAA Enterprise Network Services program.
