The San Francisco-based company said Monday the platform combines Starlink, Amazon Leo and other LEO providers into one offering with a single data plan, IP address, contract and support model.
What Is Contrivian Constellation?
Contrivian Constellation is designed to route traffic across multiple LEO satellite networks in real time, operating as a unified connectivity layer.
The unified platform works to maintain connectivity during congestion, degradation or outages by routing traffic across available LEO systems and using software to reduce reliance on a single provider. It is powered by the company’s Lighthouse technology, which continuously measures network performance and steers traffic over the best-performing links to maintain session stability and avoid disruption.
The company said Contrivian Constellation can integrate with its portable connectivity platform, Horizon, designed for mobile and field operations.
What Did Contrivian Officials Say About the Connectivity Solution?
Contrivian CEO Grant Kirkwood said satellite connectivity has historically been treated as a best-effort service, which can present challenges for mission-critical operations. He noted that the company developed Contrivian Constellation to provide resilience and performance comparable to terrestrial networks.
“If you rely on satellite for mission-critical operations, it shouldn’t feel fragile,” Kirkwood said. “It should just work. Connectivity is the solution, but performance is the point.”
Tom Daly, principal technologist at Contrivian, said the platform uses an active-active model to continuously measure and optimize available LEO paths.
“Depending on configuration, traffic steering occurs in a matter of hundreds of milliseconds so that live sessions remain intact, even when changing underlying LEO connections,” Daly stated.
