Andy Green, president of Huntington Ingalls Industries’ technical solutions segment and a 2020 Wash100 awardee, said a new center of excellence will help increase HII’s manufacturing capacity to handle future programs focused on unmanned underwater vehicles, Inside Defense reported Tuesday.

HII held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 22, in Hampton, Virginia, for its 157K-square-foot unmanned center of excellence.

Green told the publication in an interview that the facility will help "support virtually any program in unmanned going forward” and will "be designed from beginning to end to build and support the construction and integration of larger UUVs.”

He also discussed how the company’s work on the U.S. Navy’s Orca extra-large UUVs as part of Boeing’s team has driven HII to come up with a center of excellence for UUVs to improve affordability for future buys.
