Human resources leaders at federal contractors discussed how their companies transitioned to virtual onboarding of employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, Federal News Network reported Monday.

“I think virtual hiring fairs are here to stay,” Janet Hanofee, chief HR officer at SOS International, said Friday during a virtual panel discussion. “And, knowing that we’re looking forward to the future that the types of technology skills that we’re going to look for and leverage are expanding the demand for individuals that have backgrounds in AI machine learning automation — we see that as being in a greater demand now going forward.”

Hanofee said the company came up with a communications campaign to inform employees of the safety precautions SOSi has implemented as approximately 25 percent of its corporate personnel chose to return to the office.

“We invested quite a bit to make sure everybody felt safe,” she said.

Debbie Rhodes, vice president of HR at CGI Federal, and Rebecca Kenawell, VP of human capital at Maximus, also shared their companies’ virtual hiring and onboarding processes during the discussion.
