The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has begun to solicit research proposals to develop processing algorithms and collection techniques to detect, image and geolocate mobile ground targets using synthetic aperture radar sensors.
A broad agency announcement posted Friday says the Moving Target Recognition program is part of the Mosaic Warfare vision and will involve airborne data collect experiments to test and assess the algorithms.
“Emphasis is on military vehicle targets, including slow moving vehicles whose SAR signatures are superimposed on clutter,“ according to the BAA.
DARPA anticipates multiple awards for the MTR program either in the form of a procurement contract or other transaction and will execute the program in two phases.
The initial phase will focus on SAR moving target geolocation, detection and imaging with a base period of two years and a six-month option. The second phase will deal with automatic target recognition for moving target images. DARPA will issue proposal instructions to Phase 1 performers before the end of the initial phase's base term.
Proposals are due Sept. 15.
