Inmarsat, Cobham Jointly Launch Remote Working Comms Tool

Inmarsat and Cobham have partnered to offer a push-to-talk product designed to facilitate communications for global remote working.

The new Broadband Global Area Network, or BGAN, offering allows control centers to monitor and communicate with remote workers operating on vehicles equipped with Cobham’s Explorer 323 satellite terminals, Inmarsat said Tuesday.

The new offering allows for real-time PTT communications and data transfers in support of agricultural, mining, humanitarian and other remote types of work.

BGAN also uses Cobham’s Private Routing and Intelligent System Management, or PRISM, technology that facilitates switching between different connectivity modes for various signal types.

“Providing voice, data and streaming services that can be easily integrated with the existing radio and data networks, the Broadband Global Area Network push to talk service provides extended coverage for traditional communications links,” said Todd McDonell, president at Inmarsat Global Government.
