General Atomics’ electromagnetic systems business has landed a contract of an undisclosed value from the U.S. Navy to engineer and sustain electromagnetic aircraft launch systems and advanced arresting gear platforms aboard USS Gerald R. Ford.

Contract work will also cover the provision of configuration management, program support and technical services, the company said Monday.

“This contract signals the program is now moving from the design and development phase, and into concurrent production and sustainment phase, providing sustaining engineering, material and maintenance support for all Ford-class aircraft carriers,” said Scott Forney, president at General Atomics’ electromagnetic systems business.

General Atomics is slated to deliver EMAL and AAG systems for the future USS Enterprise and USS John F. Kennedy vessels.

USS Ford completed various tests including flight deck certification and shipboard launch and recovery tests for AAG and EMAL systems. The vessel is currently undergoing at-sea tests.
