Northrop Grumman will work to develop and test a software-defined radio terminal that will help the U.S. Air Force comply with open-architecture requirements.

The company said Friday its software-programmable open mission systems compliant terminal will facilitate air-to-air and air-to-ground communications for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center.

The open-architecture terminal would accommodate operations with the following radio frequency waveforms: Common Data Link, Multi User Objective System, Multifunction Advanced Data Link and Link-16 CMN-4.

Roshan Roeder, vice president of communications at Northrop Grumman’s airborne sensors and networks division said the company’s SPOC offering will help USAF develop communications software and hardware from any source of open-architecture terminals.

The radio terminal will also allow third-party developers to support the F-35 aircraft’s communications, navigation and identification systems and other USAF-used communications technologies.
