Air announced Tuesday that it has named Matthew Steckman to its board of directors. Steckman, a Wash100 Award winner, currently serves as president and chief business officer of defense technology company Anduril.
“Matt has been at the center of the defense tech revolution, taking game-changing innovation from vision to scale,” said Tara Murphy Dougherty, CEO of Air. “As Air accelerates to meet urgent readiness challenges and immense market demand, his unparalleled expertise as a successful operator in this space will be invaluable to the next phase of our growth.”
What Is Steckman’s Professional Background?
Steckman has been at Anduril for over eight years. He has helped guide the company’s strategic direction while working to maintain operational efficiency across its growing set of defense and security offerings.
Before joining Anduril, Steckman was chief revenue officer at Zipline, which offers a drone delivery service focused on medical and blood product transport. He also spent time in leadership positions at Palantir, where he managed internal business operations and maintained relationships with some of the company’s largest customers.
“Real-time readiness is a critical challenge in national security today, and Air has built a category-defining platform to address it,” said Steckman. “Having spent my career scaling hyper-growth defense tech, I couldn’t be more excited to join Tara and the team to expand Air’s footprint and execute on this vital mission.”
Who Else Has Recently Joined Air?
Steckman’s addition to Air’s board comes less than a week after Dave DeWalt, CEO of NightDragon, became a member of the board. The company also tapped retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom Miller as a senior adviser in June. Shortly after the company rebranded from Govini to Air, it hired David Kensick from ID.me as its chief operating officer.
