Day & Zimmermann has named Joshua Walsh president of American Ordnance, the company’s operating contractor for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Milan Army Ammunition Plant, the company said Monday.
Who Is Joshua Walsh?
Walsh brings more than 30 years of aerospace and defense experience, having led operations and programs supporting the Department of War, allied governments and international customers. His responsibilities have covered engineering and manufacturing, as well as profit and loss management, program execution, business development and strategy.
Ret. Brig. Gen. John McGuiness, president of Day & Zimmermann munitions and government, said Walsh combines military service, defense industry leadership and operational experience in a way that positions him to lead the company’s teams, calling him a strong addition to Day and Zimmermann as it continues supporting the nation’s warfighters.
What Will Walsh Oversee at American Ordnance?
Walsh will be responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations, workforce and performance, while also directing customer commitments, growth initiatives and longer-term business priorities.
American Ordnance operates the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa, and the Milan Army Ammunition Plant in Tennessee for the U.S. Army. The company provides munitions capabilities to the War Department.
What Experience Does Walsh Bring to the Role?
Walsh spent more than 10 years at Sierra Nevada Corp., most recently as vice president of the mission solutions and operations business unit. He also held senior director and director-level program roles at SNC dating back to June 2016, managing execution, P&L performance and strategic capture for domestic and international intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programs.
Before joining Sierra Nevada, Walsh spent 21 years with the Army, including a stint as chief of the structure and proponency branch, where he advised senior Army and DOW leaders on acquisition workforce policy. He also served as product manager for the Excalibur program, leading a 120-person organization focused on development, testing, production and lifecycle sustainment.
Walsh’s Army service included three deployments, field artillery command and leadership roles within the Army Acquisition Corps. His assignments included support for Operations Joint Endeavor, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, giving him experience in both military operations and acquisition work.
