northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has added to its SCS family of communications products with the launch of a new lightweight version that the contractor indicated is 30 times smaller than previous models.

The SCS-400 system, which debuted at a military information systems event in Canberra this week, allows secure voice communications for up to 150 users per unit using a commercial connection such as 3G/4G, satellite or WiFi, Northrop said Thursday.

The product has a touchscreen and virtualization capabilities via inbuilt servers, giving options for email, file, database and other applications.

The company developed the SCS-400 with built-in cybersecurity features for the Australian defense forces under the Secure Communications Mobile Platforms-Land program.
