CenturyLink to Update Internet2 Network With Optical Fiber Service - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Nonprofit technology community Internet2 has tapped CenturyLink to incorporate the latter’s low-loss fiber network service in support of modernization efforts for a research and education network.

CenturyLink said Tuesday it will use its ITU-T G.652.D-compliant single-mode optical fiber offering to help Internet2’s network meet open-line system requirements.

The firm’s low-loss optical fiber works to accommodate high-bitrate coherent systems through the employment of modulation approaches that support 100 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.

“Internet2’s selection of CenturyLink recognizes the company’s long-standing relationship with the research and education community and our commitment to meet the community’s ever-increasing advanced technology needs,” said Sonia Ramsey, vice president for state and local government and education markets at CenturyLink.

Aside from the low-loss fiber offering, CenturyLink will also support Internet2’s migration efforts to a flex-grid open-line platform built by Ciena.
