  • The integration was carried out under a partnership between L3Harris and Skydio
  • The integrated technologies aim to provide a variety of capabilities, including reliable command-and-control links
  • L3Harris’ Faisal Munir said the combination enables warfighters to perform their mission even in electronic warfare-constrained environments

L3Harris Technologies has integrated its Falcon IV embeddable radios and Wraith waveform into the X10D drone offered by Skydio under a partnership between the two companies.

What Is the Aim of the Integration?

L3Harris said Thursday that the integration aims to ensure the delivery of position location information and other mission-critical data by providing a reliable command-and-control link between the drone and its warfighter operator even in contested battlespaces. The combination of the technologies also aims to deliver electronic warfare and anti-jam capabilities.

Another objective of the partnership between L3Harris and Skydio is to provide an adversarial drone detection and neutralization capability via fielded tactical radios, whose counter-unmanned aerial system function is to be enabled by the addition of the Wraith Shield waveform.

Commenting on the effort, L3Harris Mission Critical Communications, Communications & Spectrum Dominance President Faisal Munir said, “This partnership directly facilitates the warfighter’s ability to continue to communicate, fly UAS assets and affect threats in electronic warfare-constrained environments.”

What Are Falcon IV and Wraith?

Introduced in 2019, Falcon IV is the latest generation of L3Harris’ Falcon tactical radio line. The radios feature real-time voice, data and full-motion HD video capabilities, as well as dual-channel crossbanding. They come in handheld and manpack versions for dismounted, vehicle-based and edge forces.

Wraith is a multi-channel mobile ad hoc network waveform that runs on Falcon IV radios. It works to protect voice and data against jamming in austere environments.

When the company introduced the waveform, Chris Aebli, then president of tactical communications at L3Harris, said its waveform suite supports resilient air and ground communications and counters electronic warfare threats.
