Redwire has opened its Firestone Rapid Capabilities Facility, or FRCF, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Supporting Space-Based Systems & Redwire Partners
The 15,000-square-foot facility will support work on space-based defense systems, including assembly, integration and testing for spacecraft subsystems, missile defense technologies and launch support equipment, the company said Thursday.
The FRCF also positions the space and defense technology company to deepen its collaboration with government partners, such as the U.S. Space Force’s Space Rapid Capabilities Office, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
The Albuquerque site will directly support the $45 million, five-year contract that Redwire secured in December from AFRL’s Space Vehicles Directorate to design, develop and test prototype hardware and software for mission-critical space technologies.
Converting Concepts to Capabilities
Peter Cannito, Redwire chairman and CEO, stressed that modernizing U.S. space defense requires quickly converting advanced concepts to operational capabilities providing warfighter advantages. He also noted that the company’s investment in the new facility underscores the Albuquerque region’s importance to the U.S. defense architecture.
