Former U.S. Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James has joined the board of trustees at the Falls Church, Virginia-based nonprofit science and technology organization Noblis.

Noblis said Thursday James’ public and private sector has spanned more than 30 years and included legislative, international affairs, programmatic and leadership positions.

She managed the welfare of active-duty, guard, reserve and civilian airmen during her tenure as the 23rd secretary of the Air Force.

James previously served as assistant to the assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs, assistant secretary of defense for reserve affairs within the Defense Department and senior adviser to the secretary of defense.

She also worked as president of Science Applications International Corp.’s technical and engineering sector, as well as senior vice president and director of SAIC’s homeland security business.
