Lockheed-Martin-BlueLockheed Martin distributed 80,000 build-it-yourself hovercraft kits at the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington April 25 through 27.

Silicon Valley, Calif.-based nonprofit Resource Area for Teaching designed and developed the kits for students attending the festival to promote science, technology, engineering and math, RAFT said April 25 statement.

RAFT designed the hovercraft kits to teach students about friction, air pressure and inertia.

The organization made the hovercrafts from a CD, balooon, sports bottle cap and foam.

Volunteers from RAFT and Lockheed assembled the kits earlier this year, the release said.
