Michael MenkingAirbus Defence and Space has secured a contract to supply radar antenna and electronics for a new South Korean satellite, a deal  Michael Menking, earth observation, navigation and science head, expects will boost the company’s radar exports in the region.

The instruments will be installed aboard the Kompsat-6 Earth observation satellite, Airbus said Wednesday.

“The Kompsat-6 contract… highlights the long-lasting relationship we have established with (the Korea Aerospace Research Institute) and other partners in the Republic of Korea,” Menking said.

“This will pave the way for further export successes in the fields of radar instruments and radar satellites,” he added.

The K6 radar satellite is scheduled to become operational in 2019.
