Microsoft has released a white paper that proposes privacy and security best practices for corporate employees who use their own mobile devices in the workplace.
The company says organizations should develop policies to stop botnets and spyware from entering their enterprise information technology networks.
A global survey by Gartner Research found 88 percent of executives said their staff use personal devices for business purposes, while only 62 percent said their organizations plan to implement or have already implemented bring-your-own device initiatives.
“The BYOD trend offers numerous benefits to users, including reduced costs, and the ability for enterprise workers to work with their preferred technology,” said Don Morrison, director of U.S. anti-piracy at Microsoft.
“That said, BYOD does blur the lines between enterprise and personal computing, and can create security risks for businesses and the workers, so it’s important to have best practices in place,” Morrison added.
