Katie Arrington, chief information security officer for the office of the undersecretary of defense for acquisition and a previous Wash100 awardee, said the Department of Defense is determining ways on how to integrate the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification requirements into Department of Homeland Security contracts, Nextgov reported Thursday.

Katie Arrington, chief information security officer in the Department of Defense acquisition office and a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, said that DoD is exploring how to adjust Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification training activities amid the coronavirus pandemic, National Defense magazine reported Wednesday.

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification regulations were created by the Department of Defense to strengthen cybersecurity in the supply chain of the Defense Industrial Base and Version 1.0 was released on Jan. 31.

The U.S. Transportation Command has announced its support for the Department of Defense’s new Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification to mitigate risks from its supply chain, the branch stated in February.

Department of Defense acquisition officials are close to finalizing a memorandum of understanding with the accreditation body for DoD’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program to define the responsibilities and roles of CMMC auditors, Inside Defense reported Wednesday. The Department of Defense released the final Model Version 1.0 of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification framework in January. The development of the CMMC framework is part of DoD’s efforts to enhance the protection of sensitive data within the Federal supply chain.
