Lockheed Martin has completed the first knowledge point of the Missile Defense Agency's Next Generation Interceptor program, marking an acquisition milestone for the modernized missile defense system. The KP1 stage involved the assessment of the program's design review milestones, technology maturation, manufacturing readiness and use of the NGI Software Factory, Northrop said Wednesday.

Northrop Grumman and the Missile Defense Agency completed a preliminary design review of the Next Generation Interceptor capability one year ahead of schedule. As part of PDR, the Northrop NGI team provided MDA with a full-scale solid rocket motor, avionics, test hardware and other on-site interactive demonstrators for assessment as well as a digital model of the all-up round design in a virtual reality environment, the company said Wednesday.

Jacobs and its subcontractors were instrumental in the Missile Defense Agency's flight demonstration of Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System-12 interceptor against an intermediate-range ballistic missile. Jacobs, which leads the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions contract, said Wednesday that it deployed employees in different locations to provide IT services, connectivity and communications for the flight test.

The Missile Defense Agency has released a request for proposals for a single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for data management and software support services. MDA will hold a total small business set-aside competition for the Agency Information Management and Software Services contract, which has a five-year base term and five one-year options, according to a solicitation notice published Monday.

The U.S. Navy and the Missile Defense Agency demonstrated the multiple target detection feature of a Lockheed Martin-built Aegis Weapon System installed on the destroyer USS Carl Levin during an integrated air and missile defense test. The joint test, called Vigilant Wyvern, saw the Aegis Weapon System-48 engage anti-ship cruise missiles and ballistic missile defense targets in a realistic IAMD scenario in the Pacific Missile Test Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii, Lockheed said Thursday.
