The U.S. Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Technology Laboratories unit a $14.8M contract to prototype a cloud-based forensic tool designed to automatically detect and segregate disinformation campaigns.

ATL will provide research and development services for the semantic technology that is envisioned to process multimodal media used in large-scale disinformation attacks, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

Contract work also covers the evaluation and refinement of the prototype’s capacity to characterize falsified assets through cloud as well as local architectures for various end-users.

The Air Force Research Laboratory received 37 offers for the project and will obligate $2.6M in fiscal 2020 R&D, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.

Lockheed will perform work in Cherry Hill, N.J., through October 2024.
