TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 1, 2020 — Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president of government strategy and policy at Inmarsat Government, highlighted the company’s push to support public sector organizations  through satellite communications, mobile connectivity and 5G technology advancements, GovCon Wire reported April 20.

“For U.S. government users, whether military or federal, the key is the recognition of the criticality of assured satellite communication networks in their mission-critical communications. Once this dependence is understood, then the comparative advantages of one technology over another in a given scenario can be properly applied,” Cowen-Hirsch said in an interview published on MilsatMagazine.

She noted that the company aims to launch a sixth-generation satellite, dubbed Inmarsat-6, later this year and a next-gen Global Xpress satellite in the first half of 2023 to support satcom-as-a-service offerings.

Cowen Hirsch called for collaboration between satellite and mobile network companies to drive the implementation of 5G wireless networks.
