Textron Systems has secured a pair of contracts worth $46.4M combined to manufacture five small unmanned aircraft systems for the U.S. Army.
The company will provide Aerosonde Mk4.7 sUAS units and initial spares as well as provide logistics, new equipment training and field support services, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Work under the two firm-fixed-price contracts will take place in Nigeria and Uganda.
Textron is expected to deliver the first three drones by Sept. 30, 2021, and the remaining two vehicles by Sept. 30 of the following year.
The service branch obligated the total contract amount using fiscal 2019 overseas contingency operations and defense; and fiscal 2020 peacekeeping operations and overseas contingency funds.
The Aerosonde system is designed to collect data in expeditionary missions at sea or on land and has logged more than 300K flight hours to date.
