The 5G Open Innovation Lab has selected 17 technology startups for its first cohort that will take part in its inaugural 12-week virtual program, which seeks to help companies develop new tech applications and markets using 5G.

“Our first program provides start-ups with virtual access to mentors and tools to collaborate directly with technology and business leaders to design and bring to life their vision and dreams for new 5G applications,” Jim Brisimitzis, managing partner of the 5G OI Lab, said in a statement published Tuesday.

The virtual program kicked off in early May and will continue through July 17. The selected companies will collaborate with business advisers and 5G tech professionals through private working sessions and roundtables. The program will include a Demo Day, discuss topics related to corporate development and business planning and provide founders an opportunity to connect to venture capital community leaders.

Three startups that are part of the first cohort are in stealth mode. Other participants are:

  • Aarna Networks
  • Evolute
  • Expeto.io
  • Gybe
  • Iunu
  • Mutable
  • NLM
  • Numurus
  • Omnivor
  • OptiPulse
  • PlutoVR
  • SciVista

  • Transparent Path

5G OI Lab is a global ecosystem of startups, developers, enterprises, academia and government institutions aimed at advancing the development and deployment of new use cases and capabilities for 5G. NASA, Intel and T-Mobile are the lab’s three founding partners.
