Amr Salem, formerly corporate vice president at Cisco's public sector segment, has joined Quantela as CEO.

Prior to his appointment, the smart cities and internet of things veteran helped Cisco drive its strategy and go-to-market operations for the healthcare, education, defense, public safety, utilities, transportation and government sectors, Quantela said Wednesday.

Salem also held the role of global managing director for emerging solutions and go-to market at Cisco.

“We will look to him to lead the company as we forge ahead in a diverse and challenging global market,“ said Sridhar Gadhi, founder and executive chairman at Quantela.

Quantela offers IoT and smart city offerings for urban communities. Salem's appointment is part of the company's plans to expand its presence into the U.S., Dubai, India, the Netherlands, the U.K. and Singapore.
