Mark Vriesenga, director of model-based enterprise engineering at BAE Systems, said the modern battlefield is increasingly challenging cyber resilience and requires the pursuit of dynamic practices.

The company considers the aspects of preparation, prevention, detection, response and recovery as pillars of cyber resilience, Vriesenga said in a piece posted Wednesday at Fifth Domain.

These pillars direct stakeholders to identify risks, bolster cyber environments, monitor systems, address threats, mitigate impacts and actively repair system damages.

Vriesenga noted that traditional checklist and defense-in-depth approaches alone are not enough to keep up with the changing cyber landscape.

BAE is exploring new model-based engineering methods to manage project data, examine changing relationships between controls and inform the design of cyber-resilient systems.
