10 COOs That ExecutiveBiz Readers Should Definitely Know
Comedian Rodney Dangerfield is perhaps best known for his line “I don’t get no respect.” One wonders if, in a previous life, Dangerfield was a chief operating officer. While the president and chief executive officer are accountable for establishing an organization’s goals – and meeting them – over time it is the COO who is charged with delivering results on a day-to-day basis. Operating down in the trenches, the COO is often overlooked and under-appreciated, but make no mistake: A company with a strong No. 2 holds a tremendous edge over its competitors.

I'm a Member of ExecutiveBiz. You should join.
"I'm always looking for outside organizations to join where I can learn important lessons or hear about other people's experiences that I can apply to my job. That's certainly been the case with ExecutiveBiz. What I especially like is the smaller, more focused gatherings which allows you to get deeper on a particular subject and the very diverse membership. It's helpful for me to hear from folks in different markets and professions."

CIO Issues Dominate at ExecutiveBiz Morning Event
March 19, 2008 by Brian Lustig
“If you had 15 minutes alone with President Bush, what is the one critical issue you would bring to his attention?” Now, that might have been a dicey proposition for the POTUS if asked at a different D.C. venue today, but in the context of the ExecutiveBiz CIO Series Event held this morning at the WestWood Country Club in Vienna, Virginia, the question was a very good one.

 Chris Rasmussen
|
|
Mr. Chris Rasmussen is a knowledge manager and trainer within the US Intelligence Community (IC). Mr. Rasmussen believes that lightweight and inexpensive "social software" tools such as Intellipedia (wiki), blogs, tag connect (social bookmarking service), mashups, etc. provide a transparent and effective way to exchange knowledge over the IC enterprise. These tools, in agency-neutral space, have considerable advantages over exceedingly complex databases and applications often with opaque data access layers isolated within agency footprints. In addition to social software, Mr. Rasmussen argues for the increased use of podcasts/vodcasts and videogame-based learning for knowledge transfer across the IC enterprise. Mr. Rasmussen is also an evangelist for the increased use of "open source intelligence" - that gleaned from public documents, databases, blogs, videos, radio broadcasts, newspapers and discussion boards - within the IC.
